Tribute is paid to local heroes XTC

A tribute group to Swindon band XTC will play two venues in the area.

X-sTatiC will play an acoustic set at Riff's Bar, in Greatfield, near Hook, next Friday (September 19) and a "full electric rockafest" at The Victoria, in Old Town, the following day.

The band has jokingly called the two dates their World Tour (Swindon leg).

The gigs will mark the anniversary of the band's first ever concert in London's Hope and Anchor in 2002.

New Wave band XTC was formed in the 1970s, and had hits including Making Plans for Nigel, Senses Working Overtime and Sgt Rock.

A pared down version of XTC, with Colin Moulding and Andy Partridge, continues to exist. However, nostalgic rockers X-sTatiC give fans a taste of the live performances the originals stopped giving in 1983.

Singer Dan Barrow said: "Playing in Swindon feels like a homecoming, because this is where it all started."

Fans are expected to visit Swindon from all over the country for the weekend to enjoy both events, which starts at 8pm. Riff's Bar is on 01793 778304 and The Victoria is on 01793 535713.
